Hands-on Web Hosting Mail Usage Limits
Hands-on has imposed a 400 piece mail limit on all sending of messages per hour per domain. If You send more then the amount specified in any hour most of the e-mails will bounce back with a undeliverable error.
Our servers have a maximum of 60 pop checks per hour limit per email address per IP. If you exceed this limit the server will block your IP number until the time limits have been reached. To prevent this from happening, please disable automatic mail retrieval or set the retrieval times to higher than 5 minutes.
Mailing Lists Rules
1. Anytime you're sending a message no matter how large your e-mail list is you must throttle it. We recommend you throttle it to at the very least sending 1 email every 10 seconds. If the mailing list software you're using does not allow you to throttle sending, you must switch to something else. We recommend phplist which can be found in your control panel under Fantastico. If you do not throttle your mailing list and it attempts to send out 200 emails, the mail software will attempt to send all 200 emails at the same time, and exceed the CPU usage for the server and result in slow page loads for all users.
Persons who cause the servers load to increase to unacceptable levels will have their account suspended and the process will be terminated. If you choose not to throttle you will most likely be suspended for crashing the server.
2. Any mailing list over 900 emails is only allowed to be sent during off-peak times to prevent high server loads. Off peak times qualify as all day Saturday and Sunday, and 9pm-4am PST M-F.
3. Purchased mailing lists are not allowed to operate on our servers. You are expressly forbidden to send bulk mail to a purchased list. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in termination of the offending account. The sending of mail via a purchased list constitutes as spamming as the persons on the list never agreed to you personally sending them email.
4. Any unsolicited e-mail being sent through your domain will result in termination of the offending account. Hands-on has a zero tolerance on all cases of Spamming.
5. Any mailing list must comply with all guidelines set forth by the United States in the following document: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/canspam.htm
6. No Direct SMTP mailers are allowed. An example of this is Dark Mailer. Any mail should be relayed through the local MTA (localhost:25) for further delivery by the server and not done directly by scripts.
